Even though the visual effect of a rose is good, the effect it has on the sense of smell is what makes the rose so attractive. It is this fragrance that the female species of human beings is in love with. Roses are the best way to say I love you, and I think you’re as sweet and as wonderful as these roses are. It is rather pretty sweet , wonderful and marvelous to think that you’re as grand as the picturesque rose! We all want and need to feel that special from time to time.

The answer is with an association, the All American Rose Selection (AARS). This association picks the top rose selections every year in the US. Each year for the last several decades, the AARS judged roses in several different categories and on many criteria. One category that has always been especially popular is the Most Fabulous Smell. You can simply imagine how difficult that would be, but they always manage to find a winner.

If you like sweet smelling roses with different tinges of other types of scents, take a look at the new list released by the AARS, but first it would be wise to learn a few definitions of roses. Check them out below.

Climbing Roses – A type and species of rosebush that is found growing wild in gardens or along fences. They are also found growing freely in the wild in different zones of America.

Floribunda Roses – Typically the floribunda has small blooms with five, or sometimes more flowers growing in a cluster like formation from the stems.

Hybrid Tea Roses – This is a type of rosebush that is cultivated and genetically engineered to produce many different styles of roses. It is extremely popular.

For the latest update on a few strong, (according to the AARS), and best smelling roses, you can stop at your local gardening store, and take a whiff of these elegant roses with their unusual scents.

Double Delight Rose – This won the award in ‘77 and has a climate growing zone in the 9 - 5 category. It has a spicy sweet smell and petal colors of white to a pale pink center and is a hybrid tea rose.

Elle Rose – It won the award in ‘05 and its growing zone is the 7 -10 category. It has a fruity sweet smell, and its petals are a light pink with long stems. 4 - 5 in. blooms.

4th of July Rose – This rose won the award in ‘99 and has a growing zone in the 5 -9 category. It holds the distinction of being the first in a long time of winning for the climbing rose category as well. The last climbing rose to win was long ago in ‘77. The arch and span of this climbing rose bush is huge, it reaches a 10 - 14 feet in width. It is typically red, white, but not blue and celebrates the US in the grandest way.

Honey Perfume Rose – A beautiful floribunda species that is extremely strong too. Growing zone is 7 – 10. Pleasant colored yellow petals leave a spicy scent.

Memorial Day Rose – It is a hybrid tea rose and grows well in climates that are hot, in the 7 -10 category. Won in ‘04 and the roses have a heavy old fashioned damask fragrance that can engulf an entire room with only few petals. Big time smell if you like heavy scents.

Midas touch Rose – A hybrid tea rose that won in ‘94. Its growing zone is in the category of the 4 - 9. It grows tall and reaches a height of 5 ft. or more. It has golden 4 in. blooms with a sweet heavy scent.

Mr. Lincoln Rose – Yet another hybrid tea rose that won in ‘65, and has a growing zone of 4 – 9. The petals are a deep red color, and have stiff stems to hold it upright.

Scentimental Rose – A unique striped floribunda rosebush, it grows heartily in zones 5 – 9. Deep red in color and a nice sweet smell.

Sheer Bliss Rose – A hybrid tea rose with a light baby pink color. Not very strong except in the zone 6 areas. It has a mild, sweet aroma and long stems.

Sun Sprinkles – This species does well in zones 6 -10 and has a musky sweet smell.
